It's that easy, and your TOC, page-numbering, running heading replication The simplest way to customise the built-in headings is to select one of your desired headings, right-click the appropriate level of heading style, and choose "Update to match selection". But customising the BUILT-IN heading styles for your purpose is so much easier and a LOT less work. Of course you can, and I will tell you how in a minute. The shortest and easiest answer to your question is "Don't use custom heading styles" :-)
